ZTE will release the Axon 20 5G, the first smartphone with a behind-screen camera, in the European Union in just over two weeks. The manufacturer has announced this. How much the device will cost is not yet known.
It is a 32-megapixel front camera that looks through a small transparent part of the screen, according to the product page. This is already happening with optical fingerprint scanners behind the screen. The difference is that the software has to convert the image of the front camera into normal photos and thus correct for the obstruction of light by the pixels in front of it. ZTE mentions the use of multiple dual-control chips, integrated driver circuits, a special pixel matrix and a self-developed selfie algorithm.
ZTE presented the phone in September, but has only now announced that it is coming to Europe on December 21. The Axon 20 5G has a Snapdragon 765G-soc, has a 4220mAh battery that can be charged at 30W and runs on Android 10. The dimensions are 172.1×77.9×8.0mm and the phone weighs 198g.
