ZTE wants to release smartwatch and Google Glass competitor
The Chinese manufacturer ZTE wants to launch a smartwatch within a few months. That has been announced by a CEO. Later, it also wants to make a competitor for Google’s glasses Glass, according to the Chinese company.
The smartwatch will be released in the first quarter of next year, according to ZTE, say a top executive in an interview with the financial newspaper Financial Times. That indicates a quick presentation of the gadget, about which there were no rumors. There is a good chance that ZTE will show the smartwatch at the CES electronics fair in January, where many manufacturers present new gadgets. In addition to the smartwatch, there should also be ‘smart glasses’ from ZTE, similar to Google Glass. However, the manufacturer says it needs more time for this. ZTE does not mention a specific release date.
Many manufacturers are working on ‘wearable’ electronics. The release of bluetooth 4.0, which drastically reduces the energy consumption of bluetooth connections and can therefore improve the battery life of smartwatches and glasses, has ensured that manufacturers are more concerned with this product category. The fact that the growth of the sale of expensive smartphones seems to be stretching also plays a part in this: manufacturers want to tap into new sources of income.
Sony was the first major phone manufacturer to enter that market a few years ago and released the Smartwatch 2 this fall, Samsung followed with the Galaxy Gear. According to persistent rumors, Apple is also working on a watch.
