ZTE smartphone with front camera behind screen costs 449 euros
The ZTE Axon 20 5G, the first smartphone with a front camera behind the screen, was released on Monday for 449 euros. ZTE had already presented the smartphone in September, but it was unknown what the phone would cost in the EU until now.
The device has appeared in ZTE’s webshop for the suggested retail price and will only come out in black according to the manufacturer. It was previously known that the device would appear on Monday. ZTE already announced the smartphone in September. Other manufacturers do not yet have models with the front camera behind the screen. That will probably happen next year.
The phone has a 32-megapixel front camera that looks through a small transparent area of the screen. This is already happening with optical fingerprint scanners behind the screen. The difference is that the software has to convert the image of the front camera into normal photos and thus correct for the obstruction of light by the pixels in front of it. ZTE mentions the use of multiple dual-control chips, integrated driver circuits, a special pixel matrix and a self-developed selfie algorithm. The phone can be seen in action in an Unbox Therapy video, among other things. That video should give an impression of how visible the front camera is under various circumstances. It is probably part of screen supplier Visionox.
The Axon 20 5G has a Snapdragon 765G-soc, has a 4220mAh battery that can be charged at 30W and runs on Android 10. The dimensions are 172.1×77.9×8.0mm and the phone weighs 198g. The OLED screen, which also has a fingerprint scanner behind it, has a diagonal of 6.92 “and a resolution of 2460×1080 pixels. surface of almost 114 square centimeters. The cameras on the back are a primary 64-megapixel camera, a camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens of 8 megapixels and two 2-megapixel cameras: a macro camera and depth sensor.
