ZTE Axon 9 Pro has a second camera with a wide-angle lens and no 3.5mm jack
ZTE has presented the Axon 9 Pro. The device has an OLED screen with a notch at the top, a second camera with a wide-angle lens and the manufacturer has omitted the 3.5 mm jack. Predecessor Axon 7 was just known for its good analog audio output.
The Axon 9 Pro has a 6.21″ screen with a resolution of 2248×1080 pixels, which means that the screen has fewer pixels than the 2560×1440 pixels of predecessor Axon 7 from 2016. The screen has an 18.7:9 ratio and a notch on the top to make room for the front camera and sensors. ZTE has also added software to interpolate frames to display videos from 30fps, for example, at 60fps. color temperature of the screen to suit the environment, much like TrueTone on Apple’s iPads and Mac laptops.
The device does not have a 3.5mm jack. That stands out, because the Axon 7 was said to have the most powerful analog audio output of any smartphone in its price range. In addition, audio for the Axon 9 Pro is also a selling point according to ZTE.
The primary camera on the back has a resolution of twelve megapixels and pixels of 1.4 microns in size. The second camera has a resolution of twenty megapixels and an angle of view of 130 degrees, much wider than the around 75 degrees of regular smartphone cameras. LG has also been using wide-angle lenses on smartphones for years, but many other manufacturers opt for a telephoto lens to ‘zoom in’.
The case is waterproof with an ip68 rating. The back is made of glass and the phone supports wireless charging. The housing contains a 4000mAh battery. The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. ZTE has 6GB of memory and 128GB of non-expandable storage. ZTE will sell the phone this fall for a suggested retail price of $649, significantly higher than the Axon 7’s $399.
