Zoom makes real-time subtitles available to free accounts
Zoom is making its real-time closed captioning feature available to all users. This feature was previously only available to paying users. Real-time subtitles are currently only available in English. Support for other languages will follow later.
Zoom is announcing the general availability of its AI captioning feature on its website. Users can enable the feature through the Zoom web portal. Account administrators can do that for multi-account users, the company reports. The function can then be switched on and off during meetings via the toolbar at the bottom of the application. The feature uses speech recognition to add real-time closed captioning to Zoom meetings.
Live captioning is currently only offered in English, but Zoom previously reported that the “before the end of 2022” feature will provide support for “thirty different languages”, without going into more concrete details. The company also plans to expand the subtitling with a real-time translation feature, which should also be released before the end of next year.
