Zoom acquires video production add-ons for virtual events
Video conferencing service Zoom has acquired the add-ons ZoomOSC and ZoomISO from Liminal. Two founders of that company are also going to work at Zoom. The tools are intended as tools for video production at virtual events.
ZoomOSC makes it possible to link Zoom’s technology to third-party software and hardware. This works with the Open Sound Control protocol and makes it possible, for example, to send video feeds from Zoom directly to video production hardware and software. Liminal makes a free version and a Pro version that costs $35 a month.
ZoomISO has also come into the hands of Zoom. This is a macOS program that generates individual video feeds from participants in a Zoom Meeting or Webinar. Liminal charges $249 for a license on that software.
Zoom writes that it recently acquired both add-ons from Liminal and that two co-founders of that company will also be working on the video conferencing service. The service says the acquisitions were made to improve Zoom Events. This platform for organizing virtual conferences has been available since last summer. It is obvious that Zoom will integrate the add-ons into its own client, but nothing has been announced about this yet.
