Zenimax wants to ban Oculus from further using its stolen VR software

Zenimax wants Oculus banned from further using the Rift code. This is because the $500 million that parent company Facebook may have to pay to Zenimax “is not high enough to prevent further exploitation of the technology by Oculus.”

The ban on using the code would most likely mean that Oculus would no longer be able to sell the Rift headset. It will likely also affect developers using the Oculus SDK, as it is also provided by the company. An Oculus spokesperson told Reuters the proposal was “legally flawed and factually incorrect.”

In early February, a US jury ruled that Oculus and parent company Facebook must pay Zenimax $500 million in damages. That company has brought them to court because they believe that when he left Zenimax, John Carmack stole research and copyrighted code and gave it to Oculus, where he now works. Facebook and Oculus are appealing the $500 million ruling. Zenimax was out for $6 billion in damages.
