Zeiss launches Loxia 85mm f/2.4 lens for Sony FE cameras
Zeiss comes with a fourth lens in the Loxia series for the Sony A7 cameras. According to the manufacturer, the 85mm f/2.4 has an optical construction that is based on the classic Sonnar design, but has been adapted for digital cameras.
The construction consists of seven lens elements in seven groups. Focusing can be done from a distance of 80cm. Like the other Zeiss Loxia lenses, the 85mm f/2.4 has no autofocus. The lens does have an electronic mount, so that EXIF data and information about the focus distance can be passed on to the camera.
Just like the focus, the aperture must be set manually. The Loxia lenses have a de-click function, which makes it possible to deactivate the mechanical click of the aperture ring. This comes in handy for videographers who want to smoothly adjust the aperture during recording.
Zeiss provides the 85mm f/2.4 with a metal housing and a 52mm filter thread. The lens is sealed against dust and moisture, is 94.8 mm long and weighs 594 grams. The portrait lens will be delivered in mid-December, a suggested retail price has not yet been announced.
