Zeiss has announced a new lens in its Otus series. The Otus 85mm f/1.4 is a manual focus lens, intended for landscape and portrait photographers. It will be available for Canon EF and Nikon F lens mounts.

Last year, Zeiss started its Otus product series with the release of the Otus 55mm f/1.4 and in the run-up to the Photokina fair, next week in Cologne, the Otus 85mm f/1.4 has been added. The lens with a focal length of 85mm at a large aperture of f/1.4 offers exceptional performance on full-frame cameras without distortions and lens errors, even with a full aperture.

The lens consists of eleven lens elements in nine groups. One of the elements has an aspherical surface and six of the elements are made of a special glass that prevents chromatic aberration in almost all cases. The diameter of the lens is 101mm and the length is 122m in the ZF version for Nikon’s F mount and 124mm in the case of the ZE lens for Canon EF. The minimum focusing distance is 65cm. The Otus 85 mm f/1.4 will be available in mid-September for a suggested retail price of 4066 euros.
