YubiKey 5Ci key includes both USB-C and Lightning connector
Yubico has announced the YubiKey 5Ci, a hardware security key that includes fido2 support. The $70 stick includes both a USB-C connector and an Apple Lightning connector.
Thanks to the Lightning connector, the key works with iPhones and iPads. The YubiKey 5Ci can thus be used for the security of the iOS apps 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, Idaptive, LastPass and OktaiOS. In combination with the Brave browser on iOS, it works with the web services Bitbucket.org, GitHub.com, Login.gov, Twitter.com and 1Password.com. More iOS applications to follow, with the company partnering with developers in the Yubico Developer Program.
Although a USB-C connection is present, Yubico warns that not all functionality works on an iPad Pro with that connection. On other products with usb-c, the key works for ‘hundreds of applications’. The 5Ci runs on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, and supports fido2/WebAuth, fido u2f, one-time password, smart card functionality based on Personal Identity Verification and openPGP. The price of the new key is 70 dollars, which, converted and including VAT, amounts to just over 76 euros.
