Yubico releases new security key with USB-C and NFC
Yubico announces its Security Key C NFC. This is a USB-C variant of its regular Security Key, which also has support for NFC. The security key will be available for 35 euros including VAT.
The Yubico Security Key C NFC offers a similar design to the Yubikey 5C NFC, only in blue. The new key supports several standards, including FIDO2/WebAuthn and U2F. This allows the key to be used as an extra security step for Google accounts and services such as Facebook, Twitter, and Dropbox.
Using NFC and USB-C, the Security Key C NFC can also be used with smartphones. However, unlike the more expensive Yubikey 5 models, it lacks support for smart cards and OTP. It is therefore not possible to use the Security Key C NFC with the Yubico Authenticator app; that feature is limited to the more expensive Yubikey 5 series.
The new Security Key C NFC is for sale via Yubico for 29 euros without VAT. Including 21 percent tax, this amounts to 35 euros. The USB-A variant will also remain available and costs about 30 euros.
