Youtuber provides AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT with 12GB of memory

A YouTube user has equipped the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT video card with 12GB of memory. By default, that video card has 6GB of memory. The mud got the video card working with a custom bios.

The mod was performed by the team of the Portuguese YouTube channel Paulo Gomesalso writes VideoCardz. That YouTube channel previously did similar mods with Nvidia video cards and now shows a Radeon RX 5600 XT with 12GB of memory. Gomes achieved this by desoldering the six installed 1GB memory modules and replacing them with 2GB modules. This doubled the amount of memory.

Gomes’ team managed to get the RX 5600 XT 12GB working with a custom bios version. The YouTube channel made adjustments to the hex values ​​of the firmware for this. The video card is recognized in Windows and supports official drivers from AMD. In the video, the team demonstrates, among other things, how the video card achieves a score of 412 in the Unigine Superposition benchmark at 10k. The original video card with 6GB memory achieves a score of 191.

Gomes recently provided a GeForce RTX 3070 with 16GB of memory, while that video card comes standard with 8GB of vram. In tests, Gomes then noted a significant increase in minimum frame rates in the Resident Evil 4 remake due to the larger frame buffer.

AMD introduced the Radeon RX 5600 XT in January 2020. The video card was based on the first RDNA architecture and had a Navi 10 GPU with 2304 compute units. The video card was standard equipped with 6GB GDDR6 memory and a 192bit memory bus.
