YouTube will stop sending emails for new videos
YouTube will stop sending notification emails when new videos are uploaded. Starting next week, subscribers will no longer receive emails when a new video appears. According to parent company Google, the mails were barely read.
These are notification messages that Google sent by e-mail. Users received it when new videos were uploaded on channels they subscribed to. The feature was opt-out, but some users were unaware that the option was to be disabled. The messages will stop on August 13, Google writes. YouTube will continue to send notifications via the app, or in the browser on the desktop if users turn on notifications there.
According to Google, the emails were actually opened less than 0.1 percent of the time. Many recipients also complained that they received a lot of e-mails. Google wants to reassure creators, saying it has tested turning off the emails. In addition, the company would not see a major drop in the number of viewers on a video. “In fact, if we didn’t send those emails, we actually saw more interaction via push notifications,” the company writes.
