YouTube will make videos it labels as Originals available to all users next year. The videos made for YouTube can only be seen with a paid subscription so far, but that is about to change.

In some cases, paying customers do get access to the videos earlier, Variety writes based on a statement from YouTube. The Google subsidiary has decided that it will be more lucrative to offer the videos to a wider audience. “The next phase of our Originals strategy will expand the audience of Originals creators and provide advertisers with incredible content reaching the YouTube generation,” said the Google subsidiary.

YouTube says it will continue to invest in scripted films and series for the site. The move to make it available to everyone should meet “the growing demand from a more global fan base.”

Google sells YouTube Premium paid subscriptions, which allow users to watch all other videos in addition to the Originals videos without ads before or in between. It is also possible to run YouTube videos in the background on smartphones, something that is not possible with the standard version of the YouTube app.
