YouTube has announced that all users worldwide together account for one billion hours of videos on the platform every day. It now shares these stats, but already reached the number during the course of last year.

In its own message, YouTube says that it made the decision a few years ago not to measure videos by the number of times they have been viewed. Instead, the Alphabet subsidiary chose to look at the time users spend watching videos on the platform.

The company says about the milestone achieved that it was achieved last year. YouTube stats show that the platform currently has over a billion users. In addition, the company indicates that more than half of all users watch videos via a mobile device.

Earlier this month, YouTube announced mobile live streaming for channels with more than 10,000 subscribers. Other users should also be able to use the feature at a later date. Last week, the service announced that it would stop using thirty-second ads that cannot be skipped from 2018.
