YouTube turns on TikTok competitor Shorts for users worldwide
YouTube has turned on its TikTok competing feature Shorts for users worldwide. The feature allows users to share movies of up to sixty seconds with filters and sound. The interface partly corresponds to that of TikTok.
YouTube has started promoting Shorts by posting them to users, Android Police reports. Also, some users mention that they have been given a button for Shorts in place of the Explore tab. In addition, many users can create Shorts by pressing the Plus button in the bottom center and then clicking the ‘Make a Short’ option.
Viewing Shorts looks like TikTok, with the vertical video showing fullscreen. On the right there are buttons to give a like, view reactions or share the video. Switching between videos is done via a vertical swipe across the screen. The video creation interface also looks something like TikTok.
A short test of our website on a Google Pixel phone and an iPhone with the latest version of YouTube did not show the new interface, although the Shorts were already in the feed. Google started testing Shorts in the US last week.
