YouTube shows internet search results for videos in Android app in test
YouTube is testing the integration of Google’s web search engine into its Android app. In the test, the video service shows search results from the Internet among the list of videos found with a search.
A screenshot on Reddit shows YouTube displaying the internet search result in its Android app. It concerns the top result of the Google search engine for the search term, with the option to search further on that term with Google. The item is listed under the heading ‘Result from the web’ and there is a three-dot menu for more options, perhaps choosing not to show these types of results from the web anymore.
As AndroidPolice notes, the feature is not mentioned in the list of tests and experiments that YouTube maintains. It is therefore not known when the test with integration of the Google search engine started. Nor is it clear on what scale Google is testing the YouTube feature and whether it will become widely available in the future.
