YouTube rolls out support for 60fps video – update
Any YouTube uploader can add images with faster frame rates such as 60fps to the site. The video site has now made that capability available to everyone. The option should especially improve the display of game images.
YouTube announced the arrival of 60fps support back in the summer and the site has now started rolling out that capability, according to Kotaku. In addition to 60fps, images can also be added to the site in 48fps. Those frame rates can only be viewed at 720p and 1080p playback.
The display at higher fps is especially important for gameplay images. YouTube is widely used for uploading scenes from games, but until now the rendering has not matched that of the original footage; now you can.
YouTube sees the streaming of gameplay images as an important functionality: parent company Google would also have been in the race to take over Twitch. Ultimately, Amazon got rid of the streaming service.
Update, 10.15: The 60fps display does not work on all browsers. The latest versions of Chrome and Safari automatically show the 720p60 and 1080p60 display, but Firefox, for example, does not show that display option.
