YouTube Premium and Music together have 20 million subscribers
YouTube Premium and YouTube Music together have more than 20 million subscribers. That is what parent company Alphabet said in the presentation of the quarterly figures. Alphabet also shared figures for the first time about how many ads on YouTube yield.
YouTube Premium and Music, which Google primarily sells through ads when opening the YouTube app itself, have ten times as many customers as YouTube TV with 20 million subscribers. That is at two million subscribers, says Sundar Pichai, director of Google and Alphabet.
Pichai specifically mentions that the income from those subscriptions is growing, but does not say by how much. The quarterly report shows that the revenue from advertising on YouTube as a whole has grown considerably in recent years. The company now earns $15 billion a year from advertising on YouTube, nearly 10 percent of its total revenue. That was about 7 percent in 2017.
Alphabet as a group achieved a turnover of almost USD 162 billion in 2019, with an operating income of approximately 34.2 billion. That is a margin of around 20 percent. In the fourth quarter of last year alone, that was $46 billion in revenue and $9.3 billion in operating income.
