YouTube may support NFTs
YouTube may support NFTs. The CEO then hints in a letter to makers on the site. It’s still unknown what that support will look like, but it could be an additional source of income for creators.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki writes that Web3 is a “source of inspiration” to “continue to innovate on YouTube.” “We’re always focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem to help creators take advantage of new techniques, including things like NFTs, while continuing to empower creators and fans on YouTube.”
It is the first time that the CEO of the Google subsidiary has hinted at possible NFT functions on the site. Other tech giants are reportedly already working on it. For example, Meta would like to build an NFT marketplace for Facebook and Instagram. Twitter is testing paying users with displaying NFTs in a hexagonal avatar.
It is unknown how NFTs would work on YouTube. Perhaps video makers can start offering their videos as NFT to earn extra money. This is already possible, but it is not built into the platform itself.
