YouTube asks for the help of its users in providing translations for the titles and descriptions of videos. That should make it easier for users who use a different language to find videos.

On its blog, YouTube explains how to help users translate titles and descriptions for videos. The new functionality is part of Community Contributions, which allows people to contribute to other people’s videos. Creators can turn on Community Contributions, specifying the language in which they upload their videos. After that, this can be seen by others, and it is possible to provide the translations to other languages.

Community Contributions already made it possible to build subtitles for other people’s videos, and more than 900,000 people are said to have used them by now. According to YouTube, this makes videos more accessible to users who search for videos in another language. A total of 76 different languages would be spoken on the video site.
