YouTube is testing feature that downloads 20 algorithm-chosen videos weekly
YouTube is testing a “Smart Downloads” feature in some regions with Premium subscribers, which will automatically download 20 videos each week over Wi-Fi for later viewing. These videos are chosen using the platform’s algorithm.
The feature is similar to a Smart Downloads feature already available in YouTube Music, and is intended for users who still want to watch random videos without mobile data connections, writes 9to5Google. The videos appear on the Downloads page. Users who are running out of storage on their phone will be notified that they need to free up storage space first.
Smart Downloads is only testable for YouTube Premium subscribers and does not appear on YouTube’s experimental features page, but as an in-app notification. Not all users can test the feature; only some users in Europe would be able to use the feature. The feature can be used until February 14. It is unknown if the feature will also come to non-subscribers at a later date.
