YouTube increases Premium price in some European countries, not in Benelux

YouTube has implemented a price increase for the Premium subscription in several countries, including Germany, Austria and Poland. In the Benelux, the subscription still costs the same as before. Premium allows customers to watch videos without ads.

The video platform previously implemented a price increase in the United States, among others, and now a similar price increase applies to customers in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Chile, Germany, Poland and Turkey, according to reports 9to5Google. In an email to customers in Australia, the company said this is the first time there has been a price increase since the introduction of the subscription.

Customers in Germany will now pay 13 euros for a YouTube Premium Individual subscription, which is one euro more than before. The family subscription now costs 24 euros, or 6 euros more. The price change initially applies to new customers. In three months, the increased price will also take effect for existing subscribers.

The price change is part of a larger policy change by the video platform. Since this week, YouTube has started blocking users who have installed an ad blocker. According to the platform, the use of ad blockers is against the terms of use. The company would also be dependent on advertising revenue. Furthermore, YouTube stopped offering the cheaper Lite subscription in the Benelux in September, although this subscription was reintroduced in Germany that month. With a Lite subscription, users will also not see any advertisements. The Premium subscription also offers other extras.
