YouTube has 1.8 billion monthly logged in users
The number of users logging into YouTube each month has risen from 1.5 billion in June last year to 1.8 billion. On TVs, users watch a total of more than 150 million hours of YouTube every day, the service claims.
The company does not disclose how many users YouTube actually has, but that number is probably much higher than the 1.8 billion that the service revealed during Brandcast, an event aimed at advertisers. For the 150 million hours per day on TVs, YouTube also counts the number of hours viewed through media players such as the Apple TV and game consoles. Popular broadcasts included Beyoncé’s appearance at Coachella, which drew 41 million viewers, and Despacito’s video, which has been viewed more than 5 billion times.
YouTube emphasized its strategy to publish more exclusive videos during Brandcast. That offer includes, for example, ‘Will Smith: The Jump Off’, in which actor Will Smith is followed in the run-up to a bungee jump from a helicopter. YouTube also pledged to hire 10,000 moderators to remove malicious content and offered new tools to help advertisers monitor the effectiveness of their campaigns.
