YouTube gets support for the Flex mode of the foldable smartphone Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This allows users to stand the phone upright and have the video play only on the top half of the screen.

The description and the reactions are then on the bottom half of the screen, according to screenshots from Samsung. The mode works best with videos in a square format; for 16:9 videos in landscape, the app shows large black bars at the top and bottom. YouTube did not support Flex mode until now, although it was clear from the release that support would come.

Flex Mode is a software feature of the Z Flip folding phone. In that mode, apps have a custom interface for when the flip phone is upright. The upper part of the interface is then for seeing things, while the lower half is for buttons and input. Other manufacturers can also start using that mode, Google said some time ago.
