YouTube gets podcast tab

YouTube has added a tab for podcasts on the channels page. This should make podcasts easier to find on the site and should probably improve YouTube’s position in the market for podcast apps.

The tab has appeared between ‘Live’ and ‘Playlists’, as 9to5Google notes. Only videos that channel managers have tagged as podcasts in the backend will appear in the tab. Podcasts remain visible in a channel’s regular list of videos.

The tab is visible on the YouTube site, but also in the apps for iOS and Android. Google confirmed to the site that the tab is live for users worldwide. It is indeed also visible in the Benelux. Google does not say why the tab was created. According to 9to5Google, it may be to make podcasts easier to find among a channel’s videos and to make YouTube a platform on which podcasts are easier to find.
