YouTube gets features like ‘stable volume’ and easier fast forwarding
YouTube has announced more than 30 new features, including the ability to hold the volume steady across videos and fast-forward by pressing and holding the screen. The features will come to users starting Tuesday.
The volume function is called ‘stable volume’ and is in the YouTube settings. This is enabled by default and should ensure that there are fewer volume differences between YouTube videos. Users can also double the playback speed while watching a video by pressing and holding the screen. When the user stops pressing, the video resumes playing at normal speed.
Furthermore, YouTube shows the preview thumbnails that users see larger while searching in a video. Users can also enable the lock screen function while watching a video, where the screen no longer responds to inputs to prevent unwanted inputs.
Apart from the video features, YouTube is announcing interface changes, such as the merger of the Library tab with the account page. This is now the You tab and sits in place of the Library tab. YouTube will also have a sound search feature, where users can search for music by humming or singing. This feature will be coming to Android smartphones in the coming weeks. Finally, the Like and Subscribe buttons will light up when the video mentions them, and the views and likes will be shown in real time for the first 24 hours.
