YouTube experiments with pop-up for users with ad blockers
YouTube is experimenting with showing a pop-up to people who use an ad blocker. The pop-up gives the options that users can allow ads or take the paid version YouTube Premium.
The Google subsidiary confirms to Reddit moderators that it is an experiment. In that experiment, YouTube detects the use of an ad blocker and shows the notification to certain users who come to the site with an ad blocker enabled.
The pop-up states that ads keep the site free for users and that apart from the option to allow ads, users can also purchase a paid subscription. There is no option in the popup to make it disappear.
In recent years, YouTube has focused more on increasing the number of paying customers for its YouTube subscription. YouTube Premium has 80 million subscribers worldwide.
