YouTube assembles team to discover unwanted content faster

YouTube comes with the so-called Intelligence Desk, a team of people that will be given the task of recognizing and removing unwanted videos from the site more quickly. It uses data from Google, as well as information provided by the community.

Buzzfeed was the first to break the news about the Intelligence Desk from an undisclosed source, but a YouTube spokesperson subsequently confirmed it. The intention is that the Intelligence Desk will use various sources to discover unwanted content as quickly as possible. For this, it can use information that Google has in its databases, reports from the community, but also trends on social media and through the use of new machine learning techniques.

By appointing a new team to spot unwanted content, which also involves hiring new people, videos should be removed from YouTube more quickly. The video site wants to prevent unwanted videos from gaining wide reach before they are removed. For example, YouTube recently had to deal with videos of vlogger Logan Paul, who visited a Japanese suicide forest and showed images of a deceased. This came to YouTube with the necessary criticism.

Earlier this week, YouTube tightened up the conditions for making money with videos. From now on there is the requirement of 1,000 subscribers and visitors must have watched at least 4,000 hours in the past twelve months. Only then can video makers participate in the so-called Partner Program.
