YouTube app gets a new look and more comprehensive video editor
The YouTube application has been given a new look. The menu that expands from the left has disappeared and instead there are tabs at the top. In addition, the options for editing video in the application have been expanded.
The news was announced by YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki at the Vidcon fair in California, and is featured on the official YouTube blog. The video editor allows to not only trim images, but also apply filters and add music. In the new design of the app, the menu that users access from the left side is no longer present. The buttons are now on top. Also, the subscribe button is easier to find for the viewers.
Wojcicki also shared some statistics about the video website. For example, YouTube has an annual growth in viewing time of 60 percent and 400 hours of images are added to the site per minute. More than half of viewers and watch time are on mobile devices. YouTube partners are earning 50 percent more this year than they made last year, and there are now 50 percent more channels making $100,000 or more per year. Wojcicki does not let us know exactly how many channels make that much money. YouTube has always been secretive when it comes to how much the various YouTube partners earn.
The update is available for Android, but the changes have also been made on the mobile version of the YouTube website. An updated version of the YouTube app for iOS will follow. This update closely follows the vertical video update from earlier this week. This ensures that videos filmed in portrait mode can also be shown full screen in portrait mode. Finally, YouTube has introduced a new price for the most popular channels. At ten million subscribers, channel managers will be sent a diamond Play button.
