YouTube adds option for live streaming with less lag
YouTube has added a new option for live streaming video with less lag. The new option reduces the delay to ‘a few’ seconds. It is aimed at streamers who want direct interaction with viewers.
YouTube calls the new option Ultra low-latency. This should, for example, offer a solution for live streaming of games, where the streamer asks for input from viewers. Streamers must select the option themselves. It does have the disadvantage that the buffer for the video becomes smaller, which increases the chance that viewers will see a faltering image. The new option is added to the two existing options: Low latency and Normal latency.
In addition, YouTube makes it possible in its iOS app to stream images from games on iPhones or iPads via Apple’s ReplayKit. Until now, it could only be streamed to YouTube Gaming. With this functionality, the microphone of the device can be used to add commentary and it is also possible to add your own video image to the gameplay images with the front camera.
YouTube is also introducing new options for moderating comments on live streams. The broadcaster can pause the chat feed on their image by pressing the alt or option button and then delete a comment with a single click. It is also possible to mark questionable comments, so that they are withheld and go through YouTube’s moderation system before they are posted.
