Yakuza-esque samurai game Like a Dragon: Ishin coming February 2023
Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released next February for PlayStation, Xbox consoles and PC. It is a game in which the Yakuza formula is used for a historical setting in which the end of the samurai is central. The game is a remake of the Japanese version.
Sega reports that the game will be released worldwide in February 2023, but does not mention an exact release date yet. It is a historical Yakuza spin-off set in a fictional Kyoto in 1860. According to the publisher, many other games tell earlier stories from this Japanese history, while Ishin focuses specifically on the relatively late period in which the samurai disappeared.
In Like a Dragon: Ishin, players will encounter some familiar faces, such as the protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. That’s the main character from the Yakuza game series; in Ishin he is Sakamoto Ryoma and there are also some famous members of his crew present. The typical fights are back, where in addition to a sword and a revolver, the bare fists can also be used. In total there are four different combat styles. You can also attack opponents by using a cannon or summoning a tiger.
Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is best known for the Yakuza game series and originally released Like a Dragon: Ishin back in 2014 in Japan for the PS3 and PS4, under the title Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin. The upcoming global release will be a modernized version and will be the developer’s first game based on Unreal Engine 4.
