Yahoo re-enables email forwarding
Yahoo has announced that it has re-enabled automatic email forwarding. The feature was disabled early this month, at a time when Yahoo has been dealing with several incidents.
In a post on the Yahoo Mail page on Tumblr, product manager Michael Albers writes that the reason for the shutdown was a “platform upgrade” of Yahoo Mail. In order to improve the search function and add support for different accounts, it would have been necessary to temporarily disable the function. The message does not explain why this feature alone was not available.
The Associated Press noted this week that email forwarding had been disabled after messages from several Yahoo users. According to the news agency, the timing of this was suspicious, because Yahoo is dealing with a hack in which 500 million user data were stolen. In addition, it was announced that the internet giant scanned incoming e-mails at the request of American intelligence and investigation services.
Users often turn on the automatic email forwarding feature when they switch email addresses. Due to the unavailability of the feature, some users stated that they did not have this option, making it more difficult to switch.
