Yahoo pulls plug on YUI library
Yahoo has pulled the plug on its Yahoo User Interface, a software library intended for web programmers. According to the internet company, YUI no longer meets current requirements and wants to focus on other projects.
YUI is an open source css and javascript library intended for developing interactive web applications. The software library contains many elements that can be used by a web programmer, for example when rendering graphics or displaying sliders. Yahoo has been developing YUI internally since 2005. A year later, the company released the code.
Although Yahoo released versions 2 and 3 of YUI, the internet company has now decided to stop developing its software library altogether. According to Yahoo, web programmers are less and less interested in large javascript libraries because they see such libraries as ‘walled gardens’. Also, server-side alternatives are gaining ground while new versions of javascript integrate more and more functionality from libraries. Yahoo will likely release some YUI 3 releases to fix critical bugs.
