Xposed module enables floating notifications on all Android 4.4 devices

A root framework module Xposed makes it possible on any device running Android 4.4 to activate floating notifications. That function is standard in Android 4.4, but is turned off, because Google has not yet finished the functionality.

A developer has put the module in Xposed. The module does not add its own code, but only activates the function that is already in Android and combines it with an interface to, for example, not display notifications from certain apps. The floating notifications come over the active window, so that the user sees them immediately and can quickly reply to a message, for example. The system appears to be primarily intended for use in apps that hide the notification bar.

The developer didn’t discover the feature called Heads Up themselves: the developers of CyanogenMod found the feature last week and built it into nightly builds of CM11. This was followed by integration into GravityBox, a collection of mods in Xposed for devices with aosp firmwares.
