‘Xolo is working on Windows Phone 8.1 device of less than 100 grams’
Indian smartphone maker Xolo is believed to be working on a smartphone that weighs less than 100 grams. The device would be marketed as the world’s lightest smartphone. The software is based on Windows Phone 8.1.
This was reported by sources to The Times of India. The light smartphone would be based on Windows Phone 8.1. It is a 4.7″ device with the low-end Snapdragon 200 from Qualcomm as soc. Further specifications are not yet clear; Xolo itself did not want to confirm the arrival of the smartphone. According to the sources of The Times of India, the announcement to follow shortly.
If the rumors are correct, the Xolo smartphone will weigh less than 100 grams. This makes the device less heavy than ‘lightweights’ such as the iPhone 5S and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, with 112 and 107 grams respectively. Incidentally, in the past more smartphones have been released with a weight of less than 100 grams, such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini with 88 grams, but these are no longer in the shops. As a result, Xolo would like to advertise the still unannounced device as the world’s lightest smartphone.
Previously, Xolo was the first to release an Android smartphone based on an Intel soc. The Xolo X900 was released in India two years ago. The other smartphones of the manufacturer also run on Android and Xolo also offers a few tablets, one of which is with Windows 8.1. Xolo mainly sells its mobile devices in its home country of India, which makes it unclear whether a European release of the light smartphone is in the offing.
