Xiaomi will come with an expensive high-end smartphone this year
A CEO of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi says that the company will launch a smartphone in the price segment of 4000 to 5000 yuan in the second half of 2016, converted about 537 to 671 euros. Until now, Xiaomi has made relatively cheap devices.
The new model will be much more expensive than the smartphones that Xiaomi has released so far, but according to the CEO, this model will also excel when it comes to price/performance ratio. According to Digitimes, co-founder Li Wangjiang made the statement on Weibo.
The price range of 4000 to 5000 yuan that the CEO mentions corresponds converted to 537 to 671 euros, excluding import duties and taxes. Should Xiaomi actually release a smartphone of 5000 yuan, the price including taxes in Europe could be more than 800 euros.
Xiaomi has not yet released anything about the features of the expensive device, but according to rumors it is a variant of the Mi Note 2. Three versions of that model may appear. The most expensive model is rumored to have a screen with two curved edges, just like the Galaxy Edge models from Samsung. The device could be announced at the IFA fair that takes place in Berlin in September, AndroidAuthority reports.
With devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 5, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer currently offers great value for money. That device costs about 300 euros and has specifications that are comparable to top models from well-known brands that cost almost double. A disadvantage for buyers in the Benelux is the lack of full 4G support.
