Xiaomi unveils its own soc . at the end of this month
Xiaomi has confirmed that it is developing its own system-on-a-chip and will announce more on February 28. The soc is rumored to be called Pine Cone and has eight Cortex-A53 cores.
Xiaomi will introduce its own soc on February 28 at an event in Beijing, but more details are not yet in the announcement on Weibo. Reports about the arrival of Xiaomi’s own soc have been around for some time. In 2014, Xiaomi started the joint venture Pine Cone Electronics with chip manufacturer LeadCore, in which Xiaomi has a majority stake of 51 percent.
The collaboration with Leadcore has already led to the entry-level smartphone Redmi 2A with the LC1860C processor from Leadcore. In addition, there are rumors about the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi 5C, which according to Mobile Indian would have the first Pine Cone octacore. It would be a 14nm SOC with a clock speed of 2.2GHz, which has an ARM Mali-T860 MP4 GPU for graphics processing.
With the development of its own processor, Xiaomi joins the line of smartphone makers who develop their own socs such as Apple, Samsung and Huawei.
