Xiaomi stops distribution of Android 11 upgrade Mi A3 after bricking devices

Xiaomi has stopped distributing the Android 11 upgrade for its Android One model Mi A3 after users began reporting that their devices wouldn’t turn on after installing. The device also does not charge, nor does it connect to a computer via USB.

In any case, the affected users are in India; many users from that country write to Twitter account @MiIndiaSupport and that account tells also that the distribution of the update has been stopped. Perhaps Western countries were not affected because the ‘roll-out’ of the update had not yet reached that stage. Xiaomi promises to keep users informed about the next steps.

It is not the first time that Xiaomi has had problems with the Mi A3. At the time of the upgrade to Android 10, in March 2020, the device had to deal with a malfunctioning fingerprint scanner, a laggy interface, micro-SD cards that were not recognized and more. Four months later, Xiaomi pushed a Mexican security update to all Mi A3 users worldwide, causing the dual SIM functionality to stop working.
