Xiaomi has shown a charging system that can charge a 4100mAh smartphone battery in five minutes. The charger has a theoretical maximum capacity of 300W, although it reaches a maximum of 290W in the video shown.

Xiaomi charges the phone as described up at 15C, which would equate to just over 60A. The manufacturer explains that several charge pumps work in parallel to charge the phone so quickly. The battery seems to consist of two cells, as is already the case with smartphones. The efficiency would be 98 percent.

For a smartphone, 300W is currently the highest charging power to date. It is unknown if and when a phone with such a charging option would come out. For the time being, this is a prototype with a converted Redmi Note 12, which can charge at 210W as standard and is charged within ten minutes.

Chinese manufacturers in particular are engaged in a charging race, where they always install charging systems in phones as quickly as possible. The fastest charging system in a phone available is the Realme GT Neo 5 with 240W charger.
