Xiaomi sells dongles for streaming video to TV without an internet connection

Xiaomi markets dongles that have a kind of Chromecast-like function, but without the need for an internet connection. The two dongles, a USB transmitter and HDMI receiver, make it possible to transfer images to the television.

The Xiaomi Mi Paipai Wireless Projector is currently on sale in China for $ 54. The dongles work by plugging the transmitter into a laptop via the USB connection, for example, and starting the Mi Paipai program. Then the receiver must be connected to the HDMI port of a television and then with the push of a button on the receiver, the image of the laptop is mirrored and thus displayed on the television.

The dongles support a maximum resolution of 1080p at a maximum of 60Hz and the connection is only possible if the distance between the transmitter and receiver does not exceed ten meters. The connection is via a wireless 2.4GHz or 5GHz connection. Users must have a PC with at least Windows 7 or macOS 10.10. It is unknown whether the product will also be marketed outside of China.
