Xiaomi revises expansion plans to other countries

Chinese smartphone supplier Xiaomi has postponed its expansion plans to several other countries. The company set itself the goal of operating in ten countries by the end of 2014, but that has proved unattainable.

Xiaomi was founded in 2010 and was initially only active in China. However, the smartphone supplier is expanding. India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines were added as sales markets in 2014, Bloomberg reported. The aim was to be active in ten countries by the end of the current calendar year, but that goal turned out to be too ambitious.

The smartphone vendor wants to expand market by market. In the coming year, for example, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Thailand and Turkey must be added as sales markets.

On the other hand, Xiaomi is said to be in talks with Foxconn about promoting the production of its low-cost handsets. There are reportedly discussions about producing smartphones in India and Brazil. Indonesia could still be added.
