Xiaomi releases new smart bracelet with heart rate monitor
Xiaomi has released a new version of its cheap MiBand bracelet. The new version has the same design, but has a heart rate monitor. This MiBand 1S will be available in China this month, but Europeans will probably also be able to buy the device.
The Chinese manufacturer has put the new smart bracelet on its website. Apparently few changes have been made, but it can be seen that the device has received a heart rate sensor on the bottom. This is an addition to the existing pedometer that can be used to measure activity. Furthermore, the MiBand 1S comes in different colors and a connection can be made with Android and iOS devices. As in the previous version, there is IP67 certification, which means that the bracelet is resistant to water and dust.
Xiaomi has sold millions of units of the first version of the MiBand. The device is especially popular because of its low price. The first version of the MiBand can usually be bought for around 11 euros. The MiBand 2 will cost a few euros more. A European release does not seem to be planned for the time being, but several Chinese web stores are shipping the MiBand to Europe. It is therefore likely that the MiBand 1S will also be available for Europeans. Sales in China will start on November 11.
The MiBand has no screen, so measured data must be read out via the smartphone. However, there are three LEDs and a vibration motor with which notifications can be passed on, among other things. The number of illuminated LEDs also indicates how far the user has reached the target number of daily steps. In addition to steps and heart rate, the bracelet also measures sleep patterns.
Earlier this year, Xiaomi already released the AmazFit, also a bracelet with activity tracker. This one has a slightly different appearance than the MiBand, and also a higher price at 42 euros. However, the AmazFit can be charged wirelessly.
