Xiaomi releases Mi Pad 3 with MediaTek soc

Xiaomi has put the Mi Pad 3 on its Chinese website. The 7.9 “tablet has a screen with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. The housing contains a MediaTek-soc, 4GB ram and 64GB emmc flash memory.

Xiaomi uses the MediaTek MT8176 soc in the Android tablet. That is a hexacore with two ARM Cortex-A72 cores at 2.1GHz and four frugal A53 cores at 1.7GHz. The GPU is the PowerVR GX6250. The metal housing, which is 7mm thick and weighs 328 grams, contains a battery with a capacity of 6600mAh. At the back is a thirteen-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 lens.

The tablet runs on Android with Xiaomi’s Miui shell over it. It is not clear which Android version the Chinese manufacturer uses. In China, the tablet costs 1499 yuan. Converted, including VAT, this is about 247 euros.

In the first Mi Pad, Xiaomi used the Nvidia Tegra K1 soc. An Intel Atom X5-Z8500 soc was used for the second version of the tablet. Those tablets also had a 7.9 “screen with a 4:3 ratio. The metal housing made its appearance with the Mi Pad 2.
