Xiaomi has presented its smartphones Redmi 5 and 5 Plus. The smaller Redmi 5 has a suggested retail price of about 102 euros, the 5 Plus costs about 130 euros in China. Prices in Europe will probably be higher.

Both phones have an 18:9 screen. With the Redmi 5, the display has a diagonal of 5.7″ and a resolution of 1440×720 pixels. The Redmi 5 Plus has a 6″ screen with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The Redi 5A and 5A Note variants presented earlier have a 16:9 screen.

The processor is also different. The Redmi 5 has a Snapdragon 450-soc made at 14nm. It is the first time that Xiaomi uses that processor. The Plus version has a Snapdragon 625, a soc that has previously been in the Redmi Note 4 and many models from other manufacturers. The 625 now has successors in the form of the 626 and 630 and is now considered an outdated soc for a new device. Both devices run Android 7.1 with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 shell.

Xiaomi offers the phones in China for 799 and 999 yuan, but the prices in Europe are probably higher. The manufacturer asks in its Spanish webshop for the previously presented Redmi Note 5A 129 euros, while the suggested retail price in China is 699 yuan – about 89 euros. The Redmi 5 and 5 Plus will probably cost between 140 and 200 euros when released in Europe.
