Xiaomi MIX 4 has 20-megapixel rear camera and supports 120W charging
Xiaomi has announced the MIX 4 for the Chinese market. The new top model gets a front camera behind the screen, so no notch or hole is needed. The device supports 120W fast charging and wireless charging with 50W.
According to Xiaomi, the zone of the screen where the camera is located has a pixel density of 400ppi, which is the same as the rest of the screen. The manufacturer claims that the camera is invisible to the eye. Adjustments to the design of the pixels and the use of transparent circuits under the pixels should ensure that the camera behind the screen can still take good pictures. The front camera has a 20-megapixel resolution and can combine four pixels for better low-light performance. This results in photos with a 5-megapixel resolution.
Xiaomi says it has so far invested $77 million in behind-the-screen camera technology. The version in the Xiaomi MIX 4 is the third generation. The screen itself consists of a 6.67″ OLED panel with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The panel has curved screen edges.
Inside the MIX 4 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ soc, Lpddr5 memory and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The Android device has three cameras on the back. The primary camera uses a Samsung Bright HMX sensor of 1/1.33″ size with a 108-megapixel resolution. It is the second largest camera sensor that Samsung makes. Furthermore, the device has a periscopic telephoto lens with 5x’ zoom and an ultra-wide-angle camera.
The Android device has a ceramic housing of 8mm thick and weighs 225 grams. The 4500mAh battery supports fast charging with 120W and the battery is full after fifteen minutes when using a Boost Mode. Wireless charging is possible with 50W and with the Boost Mode the battery is then full after 28 minutes.
There will be versions with 8GB and 12GB of ram and 128GB to 512GB of flash storage. The device will be released in China on August 16 and will cost a minimum of 4,999 yuan. Converted with VAT, that is about 796 euros. Xiaomi has not yet revealed any plans for an international release.
