Xiaomi Mi Mix has lower relative screen size than manufacturer claims
Smartphone maker Xiaomi has miscalculated the relative screen size of its smartphone Mi Mix, leaving not 91 percent, but only 84 percent of the front screen. That claims telecom site GSM Arena based on its own calculations.
With a relative screen size of 84 percent, the Mi Mix is still the smartphone with the smallest bezels to date, but the difference is not as big as the manufacturer would have you believe. According to GSM Arena, Xiaomi has included a 2mm black border around the display with the screen, making the relative screen size higher. Xiaomi has not yet responded to the allegation. The telecom site calculated the size of the bezels after it received a review sample.
It is not the first time that a manufacturer has specified an incorrect relative screen size during the presentation. Huawei did that, for example, at the presentation of the P9 earlier this year. It also claimed that the side bezels were 1.7mm, when in fact they were 3.1mm. Huawei had also counted the black edge at the screen.
Xiaomi presented the Mi Mix as a ‘concept smartphone’ last month. The device does not have a traditional speaker above the screen, but vibrates the entire top of the housing to transmit sound to the ear. The front camera, which is located above the screen on almost all smartphones, has been placed by Xiaomi at the bottom. If you take a selfie, you can turn the phone around. The device also has a ceramic housing.
