Xiaomi Mi 8 variant has 3d facial recognition and in-screen fingerprint scanner

Xiaomi has presented three phones in its Mi 8 series. The most expensive is the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, which features a see-through back, 3D facial recognition and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition has a 6.21 “OLED screen from Samsung with a notch and a resolution of 2248×1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. Xiaomi claims that the screen can reach a maximum brightness of 600 cd/m². The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which can be found in many high-end smartphones this year.There will be variants with 6GB and 8GB of lpddr4x memory.The 6GB variant has versions with storage of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB; 8GB version is only 128GB.

The rear cameras both have a resolution of 12 megapixels and a pixel size of 1.4 microns, but one is a regular camera with an f/1.8 lens, while the other has a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture. The regular camera has four-axis optical image stabilization. Xiaomi has also built in dual-band GPS, a technique that should make the accuracy of positioning faster and better. In addition to the usual L1 at 1575.42MHz, the Mi 8 also supports GPS on band 5 at 1176.45MHz.

The Mi 8 Explorer Edition also has a transparent back that allows users to see components through. HTC previously experimented with transparent glass backs for phones, including on the U11+ and U12+. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition measures 154.9×74.8×7.6mm and weighs 177 grams.

There is also a regular version without 3D facial recognition and transparent back. It also has the fingerprint scanner on the back. Furthermore, both models are almost the same, although the regular Mi 8 has a battery with a higher capacity: 3300mAh compared to 3000mAh of the Explorer Edition.

In addition to the two high-end Mi 8 models, there is also a midrange Mi 8 SE. It has a smaller screen of 5.88″, other cameras and a less powerful soc in the form of the recently presented Snapdragon 710.
