‘Xiaomi is working on a smartwatch with a clean Wear OS environment’
Xiaomi is working on an Android smartwatch that will run on a more standard version of Wear OS, sources from 9to5Google tell us. This may mean that the watches will more quickly receive features that other vanilla models also have.
9to5Google writes that it has spoken to ‘a source familiar with the development’. He says that Xiaomi wants to fully embrace the ‘Wear OS brand’ with this model. As a result, there should be less time between the release of a feature on, for example, the Pixel Watch, which of course runs on the latest version of Wear OS, and a release on this Xiaomi smartwatch.
The site writes that such a watch could come onto the market sometime in 2023. Any specifications are not yet known, but the Xiaomi Watch S1 Prowhich was released last year, has a 1.47″ AMOLED screen with a resolution of 480 by 480 pixels and a maximum brightness of 600 nits. The price of that device is 300 euros. This more ‘neutral’ smartwatch may have different software, but otherwise similar to the Watch S1 Pro.
