Xiaomi is going to sell 55 “transparent OLED TV in China for EUR 6129 converted
Xiaomi will sell a transparent 55 “OLED TV in China. Manufacturers have been showing transparent OLED TVs at trade fairs for years and LG already has one in its business range. Xiaomi says it is the first to take a transparent TV into mass production.
Xiaomi calls the transparent television the Mi TV Lux Oled Transparent Edition. When the TV is off, it looks like a glass plate with a thin edge. It is a 55 “model with a 10bit panel and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The panel is probably the same panel that LG uses in its 55EW5TF-A. That is a so-called signageTV intended for presentations or showrooms, which is not sold to consumers.
The transparent Xiaomi TV is equipped with a MediaTek 9650-soc and, according to Xiaomi, has ‘twenty algorithms with optimizations for five common scenarios of use’. The glass plate is 5.7 mm thick and stands on a thick round base.
Such transparent TVs have been around for much longer; After all, OLED panels are transparent and are provided with a panel on the back, where the other hardware is processed. With Xiaomi’s transparent TV, all hardware is in the base. The Mi TV Lux Oled Transparent Edition will go on sale in China starting next week for 49,999 yuan. Converted that is about 6129 euros.
